ISLAMABAD: The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) is preparing to hand over 35 newly renovated schools this week as part of the ongoing missing facilities project, officials said. Out of 167 schools covered under the project, work has been completed in 71 schools, with 35 more expected to be completed shortly.

Renovation work under the project includes civil repairs, provision of furniture, and construction of around 400 new classrooms. So far, 200 classrooms have been completed, and the remaining will be ready within the next three months, officials added.

To ensure quality, the project is being closely monitored through a three-tier system involving the Education Ministry, FDE, and school principals. Education Secretary Nadeem Mahbub has been personally overseeing progress, holding bi-weekly meetings and visiting schools to review the work.

The National Assembly Standing Committee recently expressed concerns over the exclusion of 31 rural schools from the project. Officials assured that a separate project will be launched next year to provide facilities in these schools, following surveys and PC-I preparations. Meanwhile, minor repairs and maintenance are being carried out in these schools under the existing budget.

FDE officials said the initiative aims to provide students with the best possible learning environment, ensuring that renovation work is completed efficiently without compromising on quality.
