Appian Way, Verdi Productions collaborate on 'Oz' documentary

HOLLYWOOD: Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way, alongside Chad A. Verdi’s Verdi Productions and Danny Strong, is producing Oz, a documentary exploring the making of the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz. The film is set to be directed by Tom Donahue, known for Mafia Spies and This Changes Everything.

The documentary promises a behind-the-scenes look at the challenges faced by director Victor Fleming, star Judy Garland, and the production team during the creation of one of cinema’s most enduring classics. Using never-before-seen footage and audio, Oz will explore how the film’s innovative techniques and creative risks helped it become a cultural landmark.

DiCaprio commented, “The Wizard of Oz remains deeply embedded in our culture, and its impact continues to resonate today. We’re fortunate to have the chance to tell the story alongside Danny Strong, Chad Verdi, and the team at Verdi Productions.”

The 1939 film, notable for its groundbreaking use of three-strip Technicolor, inspired sequels, stage adaptations, and the Broadway hit Wicked. The documentary aims to highlight the production hurdles, from technical challenges to financial pressures, that ultimately cemented the movie’s timeless status.
