
LAHORE: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) inaugurated its three-day Ijtima-i-Aam at Iqbal Park on Friday, drawing a large crowd with over 150 delegates from 45 countries in attendance. JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman delivered the keynote address, urging civil and military bureaucracies to allow politics to take its natural course.

Addressing the audience, he warned those advocating for the controversial 27th Amendment that no one enjoys immunity under the system of Allah Almighty. Rehman also stressed that Pakistan’s governance should be based on Islamic principles and highlighted the historic significance of Iqbal Park, where the Pakistan Resolution was passed.

On foreign policy, Rehman reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir and Palestine, stating that Kashmiri freedom fighters had the right to launch an armed struggle against Indian occupation. He criticized support for the US resolution on Gaza and warned against Pakistan joining the Abraham Accords, calling Israel an “illegitimate child of the West.”

Turning to domestic issues, he emphasized the need for land reforms, women’s rights, and justice in society. He condemned domestic violence, workplace harassment, and the denial of women’s inheritance, stressing that these trends must be rectified for a just society.

The Ijtima featured lectures on various topics, including politics, judiciary, economy, health, and education, delivered by prominent scholars and experts such as Dr Osama Razi, Advocate Muhammad Akram Sheikh, Dr Ishrat Hussain, and Altaf Hussain Langrial. The Friday sermon was delivered by Dr Ali Mohiuddin Karadagi, a renowned Islamic scholar.
