Pakistan Shaheens clinch Asia Cup Rising Stars in dramatic Super Over

Pakistan Shaheens edged Bangladesh A in a dramatic Super Over to win the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 final at West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha on Sunday. Both teams finished tied at 125 in their 20 overs, forcing a nail-biting one-over decider.

Bangladesh batted first in the Super Over but faltered early as Ahmed Daniyal dismissed Abdul Gaffar Saqlain for a golden duck. A wide ball raced to the boundary, yet the bowler regained control immediately, conceding only six runs in 0.3 overs, setting Pakistan a target of seven.

Chasing the modest target, Pakistan began with a leg bye, followed by a single from Maaz Sadaqat. Saad Masood then struck a crucial boundary to bring the Shaheens within one run. He sealed the title by inside-edging the final delivery for the winning run, sparking celebrations.

Earlier, in the main match, Bangladesh fell just short of Pakistan’s 126-run target, finishing at 125-9 despite a spirited late surge. Openers Habibur Rahman Sohan and Jishan Alam gave their side a positive start before Arafat Minhas and Saad Masood triggered a collapse, reducing Bangladesh to 36-3 inside five overs.

Regular breakthroughs followed as Sufiyan Muqeem, Maaz Sadaqat and Arafat kept tightening the grip. By the 10th over, Bangladesh were reeling at 53-7. A fighting partnership between Rakibul Hasan and SM Meherob added 37 valuable runs, reviving hopes of an unlikely chase.

The 10th wicket pair of Saqlain and Ripon Mondol smashed three sixes in the 19th over, bringing Bangladesh to within touching distance. Needing seven off the final over, Bangladesh managed only six, taking the match into a Super Over where Pakistan prevailed.

For Pakistan, Saad Masood’s 38 off 26 and steady contributions from Arafat Minhas and Sufiyan Muqeem proved crucial as the Shaheens lifted the trophy in an unforgettable final.
