Hangu attack leaves three policemen martyred amid fierce clash

Published on: November 27, 2025 3:10 PM

Three police officials were martyred when terrorists attacked a checkpost in Hangu on Wednesday night, according to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Counter Terrorism Department. The attackers targeted the Qazi Talab checkpost under the cover of darkness. Police responded immediately and launched an operation led by District Police Officer Khan Zeb Mohmand.

Police officials said personnel surrounded the area and held their positions despite heavy fire. They engaged the attackers in intense fighting that continued for two hours. Officers eventually foiled the assault and forced the terrorists to retreat. However, Head Constable Wahid Shah, Head Constable Hikmat Khan, and Abdul Samad were martyred. Police later recovered the body of one terrorist during a search operation.

Authorities said the attackers used the rocky terrain to escape with their dead and injured. Officials reported that several terrorists were believed to have been killed in the clash. Security forces began further search operations in the surrounding area. They also increased patrols to prevent more attacks.

KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the attack and directed officials to send additional forces to the area. He said cowardly acts of terrorism would not weaken the province’s resolve. He asked the police chief for a detailed report and ordered immediate medical care for the injured. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also offered condolences and praised the bravery of the martyred officers.

The attack comes amid a rise in terrorist incidents across KP and Balochistan. Violence has increased since the banned TTP ended its ceasefire with the government in 2022. Hangu has seen multiple attacks in recent weeks, including an IED blast on November 2 and back-to-back explosions on October 24. Police say the TTP was responsible for those earlier incidents.
