Guinness World Records honours Shahzeb Awan as youngest chancellor

Published on: November 29, 2025 2:27 AM

Guinness World Records has recognized Muhammad Shahzeb Awan, Chancellor of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), as the youngest university chancellor (male) globally – a milestone that underscores the potential of Pakistan’s new generation of leaders and innovators.

NIT, a federally chartered institution established under Act No. VI of 2025, is redefining higher education in Pakistan through its academic alliance with Arizona State University (ASU), one of the top innovative universities in the United States. Through this partnership, NIT delivers a world-class learning experience, merging American academic excellence with local values, regional relevance, and modern industry demands. The university positions itself as a student-centric, future-focused institution, committed to preparing graduates who are first-principles thinkers, self-learners, and self-starters capable of thriving in global markets and fast-evolving industries. Its programs are built around practical learning, industry linkages, and career-driven outcomes, aiming to bridge the gap between education and employability in Pakistan.

For Shahzeb, the recognition carries deep emotional significance. His journey was shaped by the loss of his father 11 years ago – a moment he describes as the turning point of his life.

“Your circumstances don’t define you. Your choices do,” he reflects. “That loss pushed me to choose a path where I could create opportunities for others and contribute meaningfully to my community.” He emphasized that the world record is not a personal victory alone but a message to Pakistan’s youth. “This achievement is a reminder that leadership is not tied to age. It comes from conviction, discipline, and purpose. This is just the beginning.” Shahzeb expressed confidence that NIT will continue to expand its impact by strengthening industry partnerships, enhancing global exposure, and providing students with the academic and professional foundations needed to succeed anywhere in the world.
