The World Bank has approved a $400 million loan for Pakistan to fund the Punjab Inclusive Cities Program.
The initiative aims to improve water, sanitation, and local governance across urban areas in Punjab.
The program prioritizes child health, flood resilience, and women’s participation in city administration.
It will provide safe drinking water and improved sanitation, reducing water-borne diseases and child stunting.

The World Bank highlighted that clean water access also lowers health costs for families and local governments.
The project will strengthen municipal governments’ financial and administrative capacity for better service delivery and urban planning.
Special measures include promoting women in decision-making, with training programs and a dedicated complaint desk for gender-inclusive participation.
