Bangladeshi peacekeepers killed In Sudan attack

Published on: December 14, 2025 1:47 PM

At least six Bangladeshi peacekeepers were killed and eight others injured in an attack on a United Nations base in Abyei, Sudan, authorities confirmed. The area remains volatile as clashes with armed groups continue.

The Bangladesh Army stated that medical treatment and rescue operations are ongoing for the injured personnel, emphasizing that security forces are working to stabilize the situation amid continued hostilities.

Abyei is a disputed region between Sudan and South Sudan, known for recurring violence. Bangladeshi troops, among the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping missions, have long been deployed to maintain stability and protect civilians.

Officials highlighted that the attack underscores the dangers faced by peacekeepers in conflict zones. UN personnel often operate in high-risk areas where armed groups target bases and patrols despite international oversight.

Bangladesh has repeatedly urged stronger international measures to protect peacekeeping forces. The country’s contribution to UN missions includes thousands of troops serving in multiple hotspots around the world.
