Prince George set for bigger royal role in 2026

Princess Kate and Prince George

Kate Middleton and Prince William are preparing for a milestone year for their eldest son, Prince George, as he approaches the next phase of his royal life. The Prince and Princess of Wales have long been shaping their children—George, Charlotte, and Louis—for their future roles in the monarchy.

Next year, George will turn 13, and royal observers anticipate that he may begin taking on official engagements similar to those his father undertook at the same age. Royal author Robert Jobson highlighted that George could play a major role in an upcoming event, reflecting his growing confidence in public appearances.

Earlier this month, Princess Kate hosted her annual Together at Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey. While Kate was at the centre of attention, the royal children impressed the public with their poise and ease in front of cameras and crowds. Jobson noted that the siblings’ natural confidence is a testament to their upbringing and the modern monarchy their parents are shaping.

According to Jobson, George has notably matured from his earlier “shy and timid” demeanor to becoming “increasingly self-assured” during public appearances. He suggested that George might even participate in a reading at one of his mother’s carol services next year, though no official confirmation has been made.

Prince George has already gained experience filling in for his father, William, including appearances at significant royal events such as the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance at the Albert Hall. Observers believe these experiences, guided by his parents, are preparing him to take on more responsibilities and potentially surprise the public with a special role in 2026.

The young royals’ development continues to be closely watched, with George, Charlotte, and Louis gradually stepping into more visible duties that reflect both tradition and the evolving nature of the monarchy.
