Pakistan, Libya discuss defence cooperation and regional security

ISLAMABAD/TRIPOLI: Pakistan Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, met with Commander-in-Chief of the Libya Arab Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Belqasim Haftar, to discuss matters of mutual interest and regional security, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.

The meeting, held during Field Marshal Munir’s official visit to Libya, also included the presence of Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces. Upon arrival, Field Marshal Munir was received with a guard of honour by a well-drilled contingent of the Libyan Armed Forces.

According to the ISPR, both sides emphasized the importance of collaboration in key areas, including training, capacity building, and counter-terrorism. Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening defence ties with Libya based on shared interests and mutual strategic priorities.

Field Marshal Haftar praised the professionalism and capabilities of the Pakistan Armed Forces and expressed his interest in further expanding defence cooperation between the two countries.

The discussions focused on enhancing military-to-military relations and exploring avenues for closer collaboration in addressing regional security dynamics. The visit underlines Pakistan’s continued efforts to build strategic partnerships and foster stability through defence cooperation with friendly nations.

The ISPR statement highlighted that the meeting reinforced mutual trust and underscored the long-standing defence relationship between Pakistan and Libya, paving the way for future joint initiatives in training, counter-terrorism, and military development.
