Published on: December 20, 2025 9:13 AM

On the occasion of SAARC Charter Day, a special ceremony was organized by the Forum of Diplomats as an initiative of the Dr. Jehangir Bader Institute of Vision and Leadership. The event was held in collaboration with the Centre for South Asian Studies, University of the Punjab, at Quaid-e-Azam Campus, University of the Punjab, Lahore.

The Dr Jehangir Bader Institute of Vision and Leadership is a research-based and intellectual institution dedicated to promoting leadership, vision, regional harmony and positive social change. The Institute regularly organizes academic, diplomatic and policy-oriented engagements to encourage informed dialogue on regional and global issues, particularly among youth and emerging leaders.

The Chief Guest of the ceremony was Speaker Punjab Assembly, Malik Ahmed Khan, who in his address highlighted the objectives of SAARC, the importance of regional cooperation, and the promotion of peace and development in South Asia. He emphasized that regional unity and diplomatic engagement are the need of the hour, and that the SAARC Charter provides an effective platform in this regard.

The event was also attended by the Sri Lankan Consular Representative in Lahore as Guest of Honour, who shared views on strengthening relations among South Asian countries.

Other distinguished speakers included former Pakistani Ambassador Shahid Malik, Vice Chancellor University of the Punjab Dr. Muhammad Ali, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid Mahmood, Director Centre for South Asian Studies Dr. Naheed Goraia, and Additional Secretary General Pakistan Peoples Party Zulfiqar Ali Bader. The speakers emphasized SAARC’s vision, regional diplomacy, academic and cultural linkages, and the vital role of youth in fostering regional cooperation.

The speakers stressed that strengthening platforms like SAARC is essential for ensuring sustainable peace, economic stability, and people-to-people connectivity among South Asian nations. A large number of students, faculty members, diplomats, and representatives from various walks of life attended the event.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the organizers expressed gratitude to the guests and reaffirmed their commitment to organizing similar academic and intellectual activities in the future to further highlight the significance of SAARC Charter Day.
