Youth missing, four injured in Punjab fog accidents

Published on: December 22, 2025 11:24 AM

CHINIOT: Dense fog on Sunday led to a series of accidents in Punjab, leaving one young man missing and four others injured. Early in the morning, a car plunged into the Jhang Branch Canal on Chiniot-Sahianwala Road as the driver lost visibility in the thick fog.

One passenger, identified as Mian Qasim of Lahore, was rescued from the canal, while the driver, Zain, also from Lahore, remained missing. Rescue 1122 divers conducted a search operation in the canal, which was ongoing at the time of reporting.

In a separate incident, four people were injured when a passenger wagon collided with a sugarcane-laden tractor trolley near Laliana. The wagon, travelling towards Sargodha, crashed due to poor visibility caused by fog.

The injured, including the wagon driver, were identified as Nagina Bibi, Abdul Rehman, Usman, and Majeed, all residents of Faisalabad. They were shifted to Lalian THQ Hospital by Rescue 1122 ambulances for medical treatment.

Authorities warned motorists to exercise caution on fog-covered roads and advised the use of low-beam headlights and reduced speeds to avoid accidents. Local administration and emergency services remained on high alert to respond to any further incidents during the ongoing foggy conditions.

Residents expressed concerns over the increasing number of accidents during the winter months and urged the government to implement safety measures such as reflective road markings and warning signs on bridges and canals.
