SHO under investigation after citizen Killed in Nooriabad road mishap

KARACHI: A citizen was killed on Sunday after being struck by a vehicle linked to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Nooriabad. Following the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jamshoro suspended the SHO, citing his “inappropriate attitude” toward the victims and actions that caused public fear. The exact circumstances of the accident are under investigation.

The SHO claimed the death resulted from a three-vehicle collision and was not solely his responsibility. However, police officials stressed the suspension was necessary due to the officer’s conduct following the incident. A survivor alleged that armed men in civilian clothes attempted to intercept their vehicle, ramming it when they did not comply. The survivor claimed he was tortured and threatened by police officers after the crash, and his friend was killed.

Authorities have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the involved police personnel. The incident comes amid a broader surge in violence and accidents across Karachi, including multiple shootings and traffic-related fatalities on Sunday. In Port Qasim, a security guard shot an alleged mugger, killing one and injuring another. In New Karachi, a man named Shakeel was killed in a targeted shooting, reportedly linked to personal enmity.

Other victims included a 47-year-old man, Ghulam Abbas, shot near SITE, and a 20-year-old youth, Ayan, injured in Machar Colony. Karachi has seen a sharp rise in deaths and injuries due to crime and accidents in 2025. Chhipa Foundation reported 830 deaths in traffic accidents, 407 in gunfire incidents, and 386 from drug overdoses so far this year.
