Pakistan railways faces 95 accidents in 2025

Published on: December 23, 2025 10:02 PM

Pakistan Railways recorded 95 accidents in 2025, marking one of the most turbulent years for the national rail network, with derailments, collisions, sabotage, and widespread operational delays affecting services across the country.

Derailments accounted for the largest share of incidents, with 46 passenger train and 43 freight train derailments, including major accidents involving Islamabad Express, Awam Express, and Shalimar Express, causing injuries and extensive damage to coaches and tracks.

Collisions at level crossings remained a persistent issue, with incidents like the Rehman Baba Express striking a trolley, and the Pakistan Express narrowly avoiding major accidents, highlighting ongoing safety concerns for passengers and staff alike.

Railway sabotage, particularly in Balochistan, disrupted operations multiple times, including explosive attacks near Jacobabad on the Jaffar Express, while station upgrades were carried out, yet track modernization and rolling stock improvements remained limited amid growing challenges.
