KP assembly 2025 hampered by delays, absences

Published on: February 11, 2026 10:01 PM

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly faced a challenging year in 2025, marked by frequent delays, empty chambers, and quorum issues, resulting in sessions rarely starting on time despite scheduled agendas.

Official records show the provincial assembly held four sessions throughout the year, presenting 31 bills, of which 26 were passed successfully, while five could only be introduced but remained unfinalized.

Amendments were proposed to 20 key legislations, including the Local Government Amendment Bill, Finance Bill, KP Ease of Doing Business Bill, Legal Aid Amendment Bill, and Agricultural Income Tax Bill, alongside 61 approved resolutions.

Despite notable achievements, including the approval of the provincial budget for 2025-26 and hosting its first-ever peace jirga, political analysts noted that delays and extended debates overshadowed the assembly’s overall performance.
