Five suspected target killers killed in Peshawar encounter

Published on: December 29, 2025 12:38 PM

PESHAWAR: Police on Monday claimed to have neutralised five suspected outlaws during an encounter in the Daudzai area of Peshawar, following an intelligence-based operation carried out in the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to officials, a heavy police contingent launched the operation after receiving information about the presence of armed suspects in the area. Police said the locality was cordoned off to prevent the suspects from fleeing and to facilitate their arrest.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Mian Saeed said that the suspects opened fire on law enforcement personnel when police attempted to move in, prompting a retaliatory response. As a result of the exchange of gunfire, five suspects were killed, he added.

SSP Operations Muhammad Farhan said the deceased were “professional target killers” and were wanted in multiple serious criminal cases. He claimed the suspects were involved in more than 30 incidents of targeted killings, including attacks on police officials as well as political and social figures.

Police officials said weapons and other items were recovered from the suspects, though further details were not immediately disclosed. A search and sweep operation was also underway in the area, with all entry and exit points sealed as a precautionary measure to ensure no accomplices managed to escape.

Law enforcement authorities maintained that the operation was conducted in line with standard procedures and was aimed at curbing criminal activity and improving security in the city.

Earlier this year, police had reported a similar incident in the Mera Kachori area within the jurisdiction of Chamkani Police Station, where four suspected robbers — including three Afghan nationals — were killed in an alleged encounter. In that case, police said the suspects were planning a robbery when they encountered a patrol and opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

Police have reiterated their commitment to taking action against criminal elements and stated that intelligence-based operations would continue to maintain law and order across Peshawar.
