Public transport fares across Punjab have been reduced following the federal government’s decision to lower petrol prices from January 1, providing relief to daily commuters and long-distance travelers alike.
The Punjab Transport Department announced reductions on multiple bus routes, with fare cuts ranging from Rs60 to Rs180 depending on travel distance, benefiting thousands of passengers across central, northern, and southern Punjab.

Rana Mohsin, Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority, said fares from Lahore to major cities have been revised. Trips to Islamabad now cost Rs1,850, down from Rs1,910, while Murree and Peshawar fares are Rs2,290 and Rs2,530 respectively.
Other northern cities, including Mansehra and Abbottabad, have seen reductions to Rs2,420 and Rs2,240. Central and southern routes were adjusted too, with Faisalabad-bound fares now Rs980, Multan Rs1,650, and Sadiqabad Rs2,430.

Long-distance journeys were eased, with Lahore to Karachi fares cut from Rs5,800 to Rs5,620, and Lahore to Sukkur from Rs3,510 to Rs3,400, allowing travelers to save significantly on extended trips.
Officials confirmed the fare adjustments follow a Rs10.28 per litre reduction in petrol and Rs8.57 per litre cut in high-speed diesel, aiming to immediately pass fuel cost benefits to the public.
