Balochistan launches Pink Bus service for women

Published on: January 2, 2026 2:14 PM

The Balochistan government has launched a dedicated “Pink Bus” service aimed at providing safe and dignified transportation for women and female students in the provincial capital, Quetta. The initiative was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti on Friday.

Announcing the launch through a post on social media platform X, the chief minister said the primary objective of the Pink Bus service is to make daily commuting easier, safer and more respectful for women and students. He emphasised that the service would help address long-standing mobility challenges faced by women in the province.

Bugti said the provincial government plans to operate the Pink Bus service on a permanent basis, rather than as a short-term project. He added that sustainability and regular maintenance would be prioritised to ensure consistent service for commuters.

According to the chief minister, the initiative will be expanded in its next phase to other districts across Balochistan. The expansion aims to improve women’s access to education, employment opportunities and healthcare facilities, particularly in areas where public transport options are limited.

The chief minister reiterated that his administration is committed to improving public services, with a special focus on women and marginalised communities. He said providing safe transport is a key step toward empowering women and enabling their participation in social and economic life.

Last month, Bugti had said his government was working to create more opportunities for women across all sectors. He also delivered a strong message against what he described as extremist elements attempting to mislead Baloch women.

“These measures send a clear message to those who are pushing Baloch women toward violence instead of education and development,” he said, adding that the government wants women to pursue learning and positive engagement rather than being drawn into conflict.

Bugti further stated that the provincial government is committed to opening pathways for Baloch women to study at leading universities. He expressed confidence that development-focused initiatives would bring long-term benefits to the people of Balochistan.
