Spectacular supermoon lights up Pakistan skies

Published on: January 3, 2026 5:00 PM

Pakistan will witness the first supermoon of 2026 tonight, astronomers announced. The “Wolf Moon” will appear unusually bright and large. It coincides with the peak of the Quadrantid meteor shower, promising a spectacular night sky show.

According to SUPARCO officials, the supermoon will rise at 5:51 pm in Pakistan. The moon will appear 99.8 percent illuminated. Observers can view it on January 3 and 4.

The moon will be about 362,000 kilometers from Earth, slightly closer than usual. This makes it 6–7 percent larger and 10 percent brighter than a typical full moon.

SUPARCO advised skywatchers to find dark areas away from city lights for the best viewing experience. Telescopes or binoculars will enhance details on the lunar surface.

Astronomers noted that the next supermoon in Pakistan will appear in November 2026. They encourage the public to enjoy this rare celestial event safely.
