In North America, the film earned $306 million, while international markets contributed $777.1 million, highlighting the franchise’s global popularity. The original Avatar, released in 2009, set box office records with $2.9 billion in ticket sales worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film in absolute dollars, although adjusted for inflation, it ranks behind the 1939 classic Gone With the Wind.

The franchise’s sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), also achieved massive commercial success, grossing over $2.3 billion globally and winning an Oscar for Best Visual Effects. Cameron’s knack for blockbuster filmmaking extends beyond Avatar: his 1997 epic Titanic was his first film to cross the billion-dollar mark, accumulating nearly $2.3 billion worldwide.

Avatar: Fire and Ash has continued the franchise’s tradition of combining cutting-edge technology with storytelling that appeals to audiences worldwide. Analysts attribute its rapid box office success to the film’s high-quality visual effects, 3D spectacle, and timing during the holiday season, which boosted ticket sales in key international markets.
