ISLAMABAD: A delegation of the Tehreek-i-Tahaffuz Aain-i-Pakistan (TTAP) left Islamabad for Lahore on Thursday as part of the opposition’s street mobilisation campaign.

The delegation, led by TTAP chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai, will spend three days in the provincial capital holding political and social meetings. Some of these gatherings are scheduled at Zaman Park, the residence of PTI leader Imran Khan.

Speaking to the media before departure, Achakzai said the movement aims to end “oppression and cruelty” and emphasised that it would be peaceful. He called on citizens to participate in a nationwide protest on February 8, marking the second anniversary of the current parliament, and urged shopkeepers, rickshaw drivers, and taxi operators to join.

Achakzai, nominated as the next opposition leader in the National Assembly, criticised the government’s legitimacy and described the country as suffering from “endless issues because of ill-intended decisions.”

TTAP spokesperson Hussain Yousafzai described the convoy’s journey along GT Road as a “practice match for the larger movement” and said it aims to boost morale among PTI supporters in Punjab.

The visit comes amid stalled proposals for dialogue between the government and opposition. Separately, a group of politicians under the National Dialogue Committee has called for the release of all political prisoners to ease tensions and facilitate reconciliation.

Punjab Assembly opposition leader Moeen Qureshi, who accompanied the delegation, welcomed Achakzai and warned authorities against restricting the movement, referencing the treatment of KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi during a recent visit to Lahore.
