PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Friday launched a free laptop scheme for students enrolled in colleges, universities, or religious institutions, following a similar initiative by the Punjab government. The program specifically targets visually impaired students who are permanent residents of the province and hold a disability certificate issued by the Social Welfare Department.

The initiative aims to enhance educational opportunities for students with disabilities by providing them with modern digital tools. Laptops will be awarded based on merit and academic performance, subject to fund availability, the government said.
Applications can be submitted through the online Management Information System (MIS), accessible via the Social Welfare Department’s official website. The KP government emphasized that the scheme reflects its commitment to inclusive education and promoting digital literacy among students with special needs.
Education experts welcomed the move, noting that access to laptops will help visually impaired students use screen readers, assistive software, and online educational resources, potentially improving academic outcomes.
