One Battle After Another and Hamnet dominate Golden Globes

HOLLYWOOD: The 2026 Golden Globes saw dark comedy One Battle After Another and Shakespearean drama Hamnet claim the top prizes, as Hollywood’s awards season kicked off on Sunday.

One Battle After Another won best movie musical or comedy, while Hamnet, which explores grief in the life of William Shakespeare, took home the best movie drama award. Timothée Chalamet pulled off a surprise victory, winning best male actor in a movie musical or comedy for his performance as a professional table tennis player in Marty Supreme, defeating heavyweights including Leonardo DiCaprio and George Clooney.

Jessie Buckley earned best female actor in a drama for Hamnet, and Rose Byrne won best female actor in a comedy or musical for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. Paul Thomas Anderson took home both best director and best screenplay for One Battle After Another. Teyana Taylor won best female supporting actor for One Battle After Another, and Stellan Skarsgård claimed best male supporting actor for Sentimental Value.

Netflix’s K-Pop Demon Hunters took the award for best animated film, with its hit song “Golden” also winning best original song. Sinners earned both cinematic and box office achievement and best original score, while The Secret Agent was named best non-English language film.

On television, HBO Max’s The Pitt, a medical drama spotlighting emergency room pressures, won best drama series and Noah Wyle secured best actor in a drama series. Apple TV’s The Studio won best comedy/musical series, with Seth Rogen earning best male actor in a comedy. Other notable wins included Adolescence, Hacks, and Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast.

Despite six nominations, The White Lotus did not win any awards. The Globes remain an early indicator of potential Academy Awards contenders, setting the tone for Hollywood’s 2026 awards season.
