IED terror rocks KP, six cops martyred

Published on: January 12, 2026 5:45 PM

Six police personnel were martyred on Monday in two separate IED attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The deadly incidents took place in Tank and Lakki Marwat districts during routine police operations. Security forces launched search operations immediately, while authorities strongly condemned the attacks.

In Tank district, an IED hit a police armoured personnel carrier near Gomal police station. The blast occurred while the vehicle was travelling from the station towards Tank city. As a result, six policemen, including an additional SHO, lost their lives. Rescue teams shifted the bodies to the district headquarters hospital, while police sealed the area.

Meanwhile, another IED exploded near Darra Tang Road in Lakki Marwat during police patrolling. Consequently, a SHO and other police personnel were injured but remained out of danger. Police said Fitna al Khwarij targeted the vehicle within Saddar police station limits. Afterwards, the district police officer visited the site and ordered a search operation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered an immediate investigation into the Tank attack. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to eliminate terrorism from the country.
