Russia has strongly criticised what it described as attempts by Western countries to exploit instability in Iran to force political change. Officials warned that such actions violate the United Nations Charter and undermine established principles of international law.
Speaking at a regular press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Russia firmly rejects any modern policy based on regime change. She stressed that countries claiming to support international law should not interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign states.

Zakharova explained that pressure on Iran is not limited to the United States and Israel but also involves several European Union countries. She said this pressure includes economic, social, and humanitarian measures designed to weaken Iran internally and create political unrest.
According to her, using economic tools and social pressure as weapons to force political outcomes is illegal and unacceptable. Therefore, she urged all United Nations member states to reject such practices and respect national sovereignty without double standards.

Responding to questions about possible future actions by the United States, Zakharova said Moscow could not speak on Washington’s intentions. However, she added that Russia has already clearly communicated its position through official diplomatic channels.
Meanwhile, Iran has repeatedly stated that Western powers are exploiting its domestic political situation for external goals. Tehran has described these actions as direct interference and an attack on its sovereignty, further increasing tensions between Iran and Western states.
