Aurangzeb, Bill Gates stress efficient tax system

Davos: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Bill Gates emphasised the importance of an efficient tax system for Pakistan’s long-term economic resilience. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 26th Annual World Economic Forum in Switzerland. They discussed Pakistan’s ongoing reform process and priorities in the health sector.

According to the Finance Ministry, both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation with the Gates Foundation to support sustainable development. Aurangzeb appreciated the foundation’s longstanding support in Pakistan, particularly in polio eradication, and acknowledged its role in improving healthcare services.

Bill Gates briefed the minister on ongoing and planned foundation activities in Pakistan. He stressed that a strong tax system is crucial for long-term economic self-reliance and sustainable development. Both leaders also discussed strategies to enhance local vaccine production and strengthen supply chains.

The meeting highlighted avenues for continued collaboration in public health. Aurangzeb and Gates agreed to maintain consultations with relevant ministries and partners to improve healthcare delivery and ensure inclusive development.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to a long-term partnership based on trust, shared goals, and sustainable progress. The engagement underscores Pakistan’s efforts to combine economic reforms with health sector development and international cooperation.
