Kim Kardashian defends parenting amid online criticism

Kim Kardashian responded to online criticism of her parenting, insisting that while she encourages her daughter North West to express herself, she maintains strict rules at home for all her children. The SKIMS founder addressed these concerns during an episode of Khloe Kardashian’s podcast on January 21, explaining how outsiders often misjudge her family dynamics. She emphasized that her approach balances freedom with guidance, allowing her children to grow safely and confidently.

The reality star spoke directly about online chatter suggesting she is too lenient with North, 12, especially regarding her fashion choices and recent piercings. North has been experimenting with dyed hair, playful tattoos, colored contacts, and finger piercings, prompting comments about Kim acting more like a friend than a parent. Kim clarified that these expressions of creativity are allowed within boundaries and that rules are still firmly in place.

“I think one misconception is people assume I let her get away with everything,” Kim said. “No, North actually has a lot of rules. I do allow her to express herself, and I love her for it.” She noted that parenting under public scrutiny adds extra pressure, which the public cannot fully understand unless they are in her shoes.

Kim also discussed how her parenting has evolved over the years, highlighting differences between her older and younger children. She said her older kids, North and Saint, have devices and more freedom, while her younger two, Chicago and Psalm, face stricter rules. “Your first kids grow up with you, and then you learn to adjust and do things differently,” she explained, reflecting on lessons learned over time.

Despite the criticism, Kim emphasized that she is confident in her approach and would not change it. “I have such a great relationship with my kids—they love me, they respect me, and they’re great,” she said. She added that every child experiences phases, growing moments, and learning challenges, and her family has navigated these together successfully.

Kim shares four children with ex-husband Kanye West: North, 12, Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and Psalm, 6. She reinforced that her parenting strategy prioritizes love, structure, and creative expression, ensuring each child thrives while respecting household rules and family values.
