Two Palestinians killed in Gaza amid ceasefire concerns

Published on: January 26, 2026 11:00 AM

Updates: Hamas hands over two Israeli bodies amid fragile Gaza ceasefire

Israeli forces killed two more Palestinians in the Tuffah neighbourhood of northern Gaza on Sunday, while an Israeli drone attack wounded four others in a separate incident in Gaza City, according to local health authorities.

Medical officials said the two Palestinians were shot by Israeli troops in Tuffah, while a drone strike later struck the rooftop of a multi-storey building in Gaza City. The blast wounded four people who were standing in the street below. There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military on either incident.

The latest deaths come a day after Israeli forces killed three Palestinians, including two teenagers, in separate drone attacks across the Gaza Strip. Palestinian officials say the incidents constitute further violations of a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States, which came into effect last October.

Yesterday, a U.S. delegation including Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, Senior Advisor Aryeh Lightstone, and White House advisor Josh Gruenbaum met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The discussion focused on the continued progress and implementation planning for…

The Gaza health ministry said more than 71,000 people, most of them civilians, have been killed by Israeli fire since the war began. It added that at least 480 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire took effect, underscoring the fragility of the truce.

In southern Gaza, mourners gathered in Khan Younis to attend the funeral of a Palestinian killed in a drone strike on Saturday. Relatives and residents expressed anger and frustration, questioning the durability of the ceasefire as sporadic violence continues.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military confirmed it has opened an investigation into a soldier accused of fabricating the abduction of a Palestinian detainee and demanding ransom from his family. According to Israeli media, the soldier allegedly sent a photo of the detainee to his relatives and demanded money in exchange for his release. The military said the matter was under investigation but provided no further details.

On the diplomatic front, US envoy Steve Witkoff said talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the next phase of Washington’s peace plan for Gaza were constructive. Israeli media reported that discussions included reopening the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt and broader plans for Gaza’s future administration.
