The 1.4-kilometre-long bridge has been constructed over the Malir River and links the Korangi and Landhi industrial areas with Karachi’s East and South districts. Featuring six lanes — three on each side — the bridge is expected to serve nearly five million commuters daily, significantly reducing travel time and improving access to commercial and social facilities.

The chief minister, accompanied by Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Shah, Labour Minister Saeed Ghani and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, was received at the site by senior officials of the local government department. Addressing the ceremony, Mr Shah said the project would provide substantial relief to daily commuters, industrial workers and residents of surrounding areas, while also improving access to healthcare and education facilities, including the Indus Hospital.
“This area used to become completely inaccessible during rainfall, effectively dividing the city into two parts,” the chief minister said. “To resolve this long-standing issue, we committed nearly three years ago to constructing this bridge.”
He said the Korangi causeway bridge was part of a broader initiative to rehabilitate Karachi’s deteriorating infrastructure and improve urban mobility. The CM added that ancillary development work was still under way, including the planned linkage between Shahrah-i-Bhutto and Korangi Road. He expressed hope that Shahrah-i-Bhutto would be opened by Eid or shortly thereafter, connecting Korangi Road with the M-9 motorway.
