The Sindh government has decided to introduce additional buses in the near future to improve public transport in Karachi.
A high-level meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting took important decisions related to ongoing projects including Red Line BRT, public convenience and improvement of public transport in Karachi.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, MD SMTA Kanwal Nizam Bhutto, PD Yellow Line Kamal Dayo, CEO Trans Karachi Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, along with relevant engineers and consultants.
The CEO of Trans Karachi gave a detailed briefing on the ongoing development work of the Red Line BRT project. The meeting was informed about the progress achieved so far, the challenges being faced, and future targets.
Speaking on the occasion, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the pace of work on the Red Line BRT is generally satisfactory; however, it needs to be further accelerated. He directed all concerned agencies to ensure daily progress.
He said that the timely completion of the corridor is a top priority of the Sindh government to reduce travel difficulties, traffic congestion, and the daily hardships faced by the public. He also directed that the alternative traffic plan must be strictly implemented during construction work.
The senior minister emphasized that public awareness campaigns regarding development projects should be strengthened so that citizens receive timely information and face minimal inconvenience.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the process of launching new buses should be expedited, and routes should be selected where people face the greatest travel difficulties, the expansion of bus service will provide safe, affordable and dignified travel facilities to the citizens.
The senior minister directed that construction work on the second section of the Senator Taj Haider Bridge be started at the earliest and instructed the relevant institutions to take immediate action.
He said that the Sindh government is taking serious and practical steps to provide Karachi with a modern and efficient public transport system. The introduction of new buses, along with BRT projects, will bring a positive change to urban life.
