Tehran rocked by joint US and Israel missile assault

Published on: February 28, 2026 12:21 PM

Israel Launches Strikes on Iran

The United States and Israel launched coordinated missile strikes on Iran, targeting Tehran and other major cities. The attacks mark a sharp escalation in regional tensions and raise fears of wider conflict. Civilians, regional governments, and international forces are directly affected by the unfolding crisis.

Iranian media reported at least three explosions in Tehran’s northern and eastern districts. Reports said missiles struck areas near University Road and Jomhouri district. Foreign agencies stated that Israel targeted Mehrabad Airport during the assault. Moreover, explosions were heard in Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah. Thick smoke was seen rising over several parts of the capital. Iranian authorities responded by closing national airspace immediately. Iraq also suspended air traffic as a precaution.

Meanwhile, an Israeli defense official confirmed the operation was coordinated with the United States. The official said planners designed the operation months ago. He added that leaders finalized the strike date weeks earlier. Israel’s defense minister described the assault as a preemptive action. He said the strikes aimed to eliminate threats against Israel’s security. Subsequently, Israel shut schools nationwide and banned public gatherings. Authorities instructed citizens to work from home. Sirens sounded in Jerusalem amid security alerts.

In addition, media reports stated that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was moved to a secure location. Officials did not disclose his exact whereabouts. Following the strikes, several countries advised citizens to leave Iran immediately. According to foreign agencies, the U.S. Embassy in Qatar instructed staff to take shelter. Embassy officials told personnel to remain in shelters until further notice. These measures reflect growing concerns over possible retaliation.

Overall, the coordinated strikes signal a dangerous turning point in Middle East tensions. Analysts warn the situation could trigger broader regional instability. However, officials from all sides have yet to outline next diplomatic steps. International observers continue to monitor developments closely. Further updates are expected as governments assess military and political consequences.
