Trump confirms Iran strike, vows to stop imminent threat

Published on: February 28, 2026 1:00 PM

The United States launched a major combat operation in Iran, US President Donald Trump confirmed Saturday, saying the strike aims to eliminate imminent threats. Trump emphasized that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon, and the operation directly affects US forces, Israel, and Iran’s military infrastructure. The coordinated action marks a significant escalation in regional tensions, with wide implications for Middle East security and global stability.

An Israeli security official told Reuters the operation had been planned for months, with its timing set several weeks ago. Trump stated the strikes are designed to defend the American people and prevent nuclear proliferation. US and Israeli forces worked together on the preemptive attack, reflecting heightened strategic coordination. Officials described the operation as precise, targeting specific threats while minimizing collateral damage. The military action represents the largest US engagement in the region in decades.

Earlier, photos showed a female air force crew member preparing to strike Iran, highlighting operational readiness and the involvement of highly trained personnel. The White House stressed the operation is defensive, aimed at neutralizing imminent threats rather than provoking a wider war. Trump warned that any aggression from Iran would be met decisively. US and Israeli officials continue to monitor developments closely. Regional governments have heightened security alerts in response to the action.

Trump reiterated that Iran will never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons, describing the strikes as necessary for national defense. Officials noted that Washington coordinated the operation carefully with Israeli intelligence and military planning. The preemptive action targeted both nuclear and strategic military sites. Analysts say the strikes could increase tensions across the Middle East. Diplomatic channels remain engaged to prevent escalation into broader conflict.

International observers and energy markets reacted to the operation with concern over stability in the region. Iran has yet to issue a full response, though preliminary reports suggest heightened military alert across major cities. The US continues to stress the defensive nature of the strikes and commitment to global security. Experts warn that further escalation could have serious geopolitical consequences. The operation underscores the delicate balance of deterrence and diplomacy in US-Iran relations.
