PM Shehbaz briefs parliamentary leaders on regional security situation

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired an in-camera meeting with parliamentary party leaders in Islamabad to discuss the evolving regional security situation. The session focused on border tensions with Afghanistan and the ongoing US-Israel military operations against Iran. Officials said the briefing aimed to ensure political consensus and coordination amid heightened regional instability. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) did not participate, citing pending demands regarding party leadership access.

Among the attendees were top political figures including Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan, and Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah. Key ministers including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also participated, reflecting the importance of coordinated parliamentary engagement. Leaders discussed strategies to safeguard national interests amid regional tensions and evolving Gulf conflicts.

Political party leaders from Pakistan Peoples Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F, and other major parties attended, including Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Maulana Fazlur Rehman. The session allowed leaders to review current security threats and exchange insights on diplomatic, military, and humanitarian measures. Officials highlighted the need for unified national policies to protect borders, ensure civilian safety, and maintain regional stability.

Federal ministers including Ahsan Iqbal, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Attaullah Tarar, and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry were also present, alongside special assistants and advisors to the Prime Minister. Senators such as Sherry Rehman, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, and Pervaiz Rasheed participated, offering input on legislative oversight and security coordination. The meeting emphasized timely information sharing and proactive policy responses to manage regional uncertainties effectively.

Members of the National Assembly including Syed Naveed Qamar, Farooq Sattar, Ameenul Haque, and Polain Baloch attended, contributing to discussions on border security, energy supply protection, and regional diplomacy. The session reinforced the government’s commitment to keeping all political stakeholders informed about national security matters. Officials stressed that coordinated action is vital in addressing the complex dynamics emerging from Gulf and neighboring regions.

The Prime Minister assured continued engagement with parliamentary leaders and emphasized monitoring developments closely while keeping citizens informed through official channels. Authorities also underscored the importance of maintaining internal stability and cross-party cooperation during this period of heightened geopolitical risks. The briefing highlighted Pakistan’s proactive approach to navigating regional crises and safeguarding national security interests.
