US president signals swift end to Iran conflict

Published on: March 11, 2026 11:19 PM

US President Donald Trump signaled on Wednesday that the ongoing war against Iran could end soon, claiming little remains to attack. “Practically nothing left to target,” he said in an interview with Axios. Trump added, “Any time I want it to end, it will end.”

The US president has issued repeated mixed messages regarding the war’s timing and objectives. Critics argue the White House acted without planning for consequences, including potential Iranian disruptions of tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Political pressure is mounting amid negative domestic polls.

Speculation suggests Trump may seek a rapid exit to protect his party ahead of the November midterm elections. Meanwhile, Israel Katz, Israel’s defense minister, emphasized that the operation would continue “as long as necessary” until objectives are achieved.

Iran has vowed to retaliate against attacks. Ali Fadavi, adviser to the Revolutionary Guards’ commander, warned that US and Israeli forces could face a long-term war of attrition. He added such conflict could damage the American and global economies and degrade military capabilities.

On Wednesday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards reported striking a Liberia-flagged vessel and a Thai bulk carrier in the Hormuz maritime chokepoint. The warnings indicate Tehran’s readiness to counter US-Israeli operations in the region.
