Trump says US may escort ships in Hormuz

Published on: March 13, 2026 11:15 PM

US President Donald Trump said the United States would escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz if necessary. He added that the US plans to strike Iran “very hard over the next week.” Trump’s remarks came in an interview aired Friday on Fox News Radio.

Asked specifically about protecting oil tankers, Trump said, “We would do it if we needed to. Hopefully things go well.” He offered no further operational details. The statement highlights growing US involvement in the region amid escalating tensions.

The comments come as oil and gas prices spike globally, with crude nearing $100 a barrel. The US-Israel conflict with Iran has entered its 14th day, causing disruptions in supply chains and energy markets worldwide.

Trump stressed in the interview that US military action against Iran is imminent, emphasizing readiness and firepower. Analysts say the remarks aim to deter Iran while reassuring international shipping and energy markets of US commitment.
