Published on: March 16, 2026 10:11 AM

Dr Naeem Rauf has been elected President of the Chess Association of Punjab for the 2026-2030 term, officials announced. The elections, held under the supervision of the Punjab Sports Board, were conducted transparently with participation from the majority of the general body. Inamullah Awan of Gujranwala was elected senior vice president, while four vice presidents were appointed: Professor Tahir Raza Abid (Vehari), Sheikh Abu Zar (Bahawalpur), Malik Shahbaz Baber (Muzaffargarh), and Dr. Ijaz Asghar (Sheikhupura). Raja Gohar Iqbal (Rawalpindi) was re-elected general secretary, having previously organized over 1,700 chess tournaments. Ehsan Ul Haq (Gujrat) will serve as finance secretary, Shiraz Adil (Sheikhupura) as joint secretary, and Shahid Loohi (Multan) as press secretary. Bushra Saleem has been nominated as the women representative and will work alongside the president and general secretary to represent the association in the Chess Federation of Pakistan. The association said the new executive council will focus on strengthening district-level chess bodies, increasing youth and women participation, and improving the quality of chess tournaments across Punjab.
