HBO has released the first official trailer for its highly anticipated Harry Potter series, confirming a Christmas Day premiere that is expected to draw massive global viewership.

The trailer revisits iconic moments from the original story, opening with Harry Potter living under the stairs at the Dursleys’ home, before receiving his life-changing Hogwarts acceptance letter. Viewers are then introduced to the magical world, including scenes of Platform 9¾ and the Hogwarts Express, where Harry meets Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

A montage showcases the trio exploring Hogwarts, glimpses of Quidditch, and brief appearances by key figures such as Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape, Draco Malfoy and the Sorting Hat.

The series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, alongside Alastair Stout as Ron and Arabella Stanton as Hermione. The supporting cast includes John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Hagrid. Additional roles are played by Paul Whitehouse, Luke Thallon and Katherine Parkinson.

Designed as a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s seven-book series, each season will focus on a single novel, allowing for a more detailed retelling than previous film adaptations.
