ATHENS – At least two migrants have died in a boat accident near the coast of Greece, according to the Greek Coast Guard.
The incident occurred in waters near the island of Crete, where a group of migrants was traveling in a rubber boat under difficult conditions. Authorities said that 26 survivors were rescued by a vessel operated by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency.

Rescue teams responded after receiving reports of a distressed vessel in the area. The survivors were brought to safety and provided with immediate assistance, including medical care and food.
According to statements given by those rescued, the group had been stranded at sea for six days before help arrived. They said the small inflatable boat had been drifting without sufficient supplies, leaving passengers exposed to harsh weather and dangerous conditions.
The survivors also told officials that the bodies of the deceased migrants had been thrown into the sea during the ordeal. Authorities have not yet confirmed the identities or nationalities of the victims.
