Punjab CM orders fast-track completion of Nawaz Sharif Cancer Institute

Published on: April 7, 2026 2:18 AM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday set a deadline for the early completion of the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research, directing authorities to carry out construction work in three shifts to accelerate progress.

She issued these directions during a virtual visit and digital tour of the facility, where she reviewed various departments of the under-construction hospital in detail.

During the briefing, the chief minister inspected various sections including the main entrance hall, radiology department, mammography suite, CT scan room, radiotherapy unit, treatment planning room, simulator, as well as other facilities such as waiting areas and the air handling unit (AHU) system.

She stressed the need to ensure provision of high-quality, modern healthcare infrastructure for cancer patients.

The chief minister also directed that highly qualified professionals be appointed to key positions, including dean, director and other administrative posts, to ensure excellence in service delivery.

Officials informed the meeting that 219 posts had already been advertised, out of which 32 candidates had been selected, while approval had been granted for 415 additional positions, which would be advertised next week.

CM Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government was prioritising the strengthening of healthcare infrastructure and ensuring timely completion of major medical projects for the benefit of people across the province.
