Islamabad traffic diversion plan announced as Red Zone sealed for US Iran talks

Authorities in Islamabad have issued a comprehensive traffic diversion plan and sealed the Red Zone ahead of high-level negotiations between United States (US) and Iran.

According to Islamabad Traffic Police, the Red Zone and its extended areas will remain completely closed due to the arrival of foreign delegations and heightened security arrangements. Key routes including Kashmir Chowk from Club Road towards Srinagar Highway up to Zero Point have been փակ to traffic. Similarly, Srinagar Highway from Zero Point to Serena Chowk is also closed.

Authorities further stated that Shakarparian Road from Chand Tara Chowk towards Seventh Avenue and Jinnah Avenue from Khayaban Chowk towards Blue Area have been shut. Margalla Road from Faisal Chowk to Trail 3 has also been closed for traffic, along with the Expressway from Zero Point to Koral Chowk.

The traffic police advised commuters to use alternative routes to avoid inconvenience. Vehicles traveling from Peshawar to Rawalpindi via GT Road have been directed to use Taxila Motorway, Chakri, Chak Beli Road, and Rawat Road. Similarly, traffic from Lahore to Peshawar has been rerouted through Rawat, Chak Beli Road, Chakri, and Taxila Motorway.

In addition, heavy traffic will not be allowed to enter Islamabad on April 11 and 12. Travelers from Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi have been advised to use Korang Road, Bani Gala, Lehtrar Road, and GT Road.

Officials emphasized that these measures are temporary and necessary to ensure security during the sensitive diplomatic engagements. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with authorities and plan their travel accordingly.

The developments come as Pakistan hosts crucial talks aimed at easing tensions, with Islamabad playing a key facilitating role.
