US advance team arrives in Islamabad ahead of Iran talks

Published on: April 19, 2026 6:32 PM

An advance team from the United States has arrived in Islamabad as Pakistan prepares to host the second round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran aimed at easing ongoing regional tensions. Sources confirmed that additional advance teams from other foreign delegations have also begun arriving in the country ahead of the anticipated diplomatic discussions scheduled next week. Authorities expect the talks to focus on resolving disputes linked to the recent Middle East conflict. Consequently, Pakistan has intensified preparations to ensure smooth arrangements for visiting delegations.

Security measures have been significantly strengthened in the federal capital as authorities sealed the Red Zone and Extended Red Zone for all types of traffic until further notice. Islamabad police advised citizens to cooperate with security agencies and use alternate routes while traveling within the city. The closure aims to ensure the safe movement of foreign officials participating in the diplomatic meetings. As a result, daily traffic patterns across Islamabad have been temporarily altered.

In addition, district administrations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi announced the suspension of heavy transport and public transport services across the twin cities. Officials stated that these restrictions would remain in place until further orders as part of heightened security arrangements. Authorities requested residents to remain patient and cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies. Therefore, transport activity in key areas has been temporarily limited to support security operations.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi police have been placed on high alert with extensive security arrangements introduced across the city to protect sensitive locations and visiting delegations. More than 10,000 police officers and personnel have been deployed while over 600 special security checkpoints were established at major entry and exit points. Elite Commandos, snipers, and rapid response teams have also been assigned to strengthen surveillance. Furthermore, intelligence-based operations and patrols continue throughout the city.

Advanced monitoring systems, including Safe City cameras and modern surveillance networks, are being used to observe key installations and residential areas around the clock. Security officials also intensified search, sweep, and combing operations to detect suspicious activity across both cities. These measures reflect the importance of the upcoming diplomatic meetings hosted by Pakistan. Consequently, authorities aim to maintain a highly controlled security environment during the talks.

Pakistan has played a significant role in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran following a two-week ceasefire brokered earlier to reduce regional tensions. The first round of negotiations took place in Islamabad after the ceasefire agreement, while efforts continue to reach a broader settlement. Although both sides report some progress, several key differences remain unresolved. Therefore, the second round of talks is expected to focus on narrowing remaining gaps between the parties.
