PCB bans Dasun Shanaka for one year over PSL breach

Published on: April 20, 2026 9:27 PM

The Pakistan Cricket Board has imposed a one-year ban on Sri Lankan cricketer Dasun Shanaka from participating in the Pakistan Super League after a contract breach. The decision follows his withdrawal from PSL 11, which officials said violated league regulations. The move highlights PCB’s strict stance on contractual compliance.

According to the PCB, Shanaka was part of the Lahore Qalandars squad but withdrew from the tournament despite an existing agreement. Officials said the decision disrupted league commitments and amounted to a clear breach of contract. As a result, he has been declared ineligible for PSL 12 as well.

The PCB said maintaining the integrity and standard of the PSL remains its top priority. It added that strict action was necessary to ensure fairness and uphold league credibility. The board stressed that all players must honor contractual obligations.

Shanaka expressed regret over his decision and apologised to Pakistani fans and the cricket community. He said he respects the PSL as a prestigious tournament and acknowledged disappointment caused by his withdrawal. He also expressed hope of returning to the league in the future.
