All Parties Hurriyat Conference reaffirms stance on electoral politics

APHC reiterates non-participation in elections - Pakistan Today - Pakistan Today

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has reiterated its long-standing policy of non-participation in electoral politics, stating it will neither transform into a political party nor support or oppose any group during elections in Pakistan or Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

The decision was made during a high-level meeting held in Muzaffarabad under the chairmanship of convener Ghulam Mohammad Safi. Representatives from affiliated organisations attended the session, where the current political environment and future strategy were discussed in detail.

According to a statement issued after the meeting, participants unanimously agreed to maintain a neutral stance on electoral processes, emphasising that the Kashmir issue should not be influenced by political or electoral considerations. The forum described the dispute as an internationally recognised matter related to the right to self-determination, requiring a principled and consistent approach.

Members stressed the importance of unity among political, religious, and public stakeholders in Pakistan and AJK to keep the Kashmir issue at the forefront. They highlighted the organisation’s role as a collective voice and said its neutrality was essential for maintaining credibility and effectiveness.

The meeting also reaffirmed the group’s commitment to pursuing its objectives through peaceful means in line with international law and diplomatic norms. Participants resolved to further organise and strengthen their efforts in a more coordinated and multidimensional manner.

Additionally, it was agreed that delegations of the conference would engage with major political and religious parties in Pakistan and AJK. The aim would be to encourage inclusion of key aspects of the Kashmir issue in their election manifestos to raise awareness at both political and public levels.

The development reflects the organisation’s continued focus on advocacy rather than electoral participation, while seeking broader support for its stance on the Kashmir dispute.
