Imran Khan receives follow-up eye treatment at PIMS

Published on: April 28, 2026 7:18 PM

Former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan underwent a fourth eye procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad on Tuesday. The treatment is significant as it continues his ongoing care for a diagnosed retinal condition. He was discharged the same day after being declared medically stable.

According to hospital officials, Imran Khan received an intravitreal anti-VEGF injection during a scheduled follow-up visit. Doctors said he was examined before the procedure and found clinically stable. Medical tests reportedly showed improvement in his condition prior to treatment.

Moreover, the procedure was carried out under standard medical protocols in an operating theatre. Officials said the surgery was performed as a day-care procedure with continuous monitoring. Imran Khan remained stable throughout before being discharged with follow-up instructions.

Additionally, the hospital spokesperson confirmed that this was the fourth such injection since January. Earlier doses were administered in January, February, and March as part of ongoing treatment for right central retinal vein occlusion. Doctors will reassess his condition after further observation.

Finally, PTI leadership raised concerns about his treatment and medical access in custody. Barrister Gohar Ali Khan reiterated demands for treatment under personal doctors’ supervision. The government has denied allegations of inadequate care, while both sides continue to exchange statements over the issue.
