Trump urges Iran to sign nuclear deal

Published on: April 29, 2026 6:08 PM

President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump has urged Iran to quickly sign a deal, warning that delays could worsen the situation. His remarks come amid stalled diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing conflict and reports of a possible extension of US pressure on Iranian ports. The comments highlight rising tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Trump said Iran “does not know how to sign a nonnuclear deal” and should act soon. He reiterated that Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. His statement was posted on social media following continued deadlock in negotiations.

According to media reports, US officials are preparing options to extend pressure on Iran’s ports. The strategy aims to further restrict Iran’s oil exports and economic activity. Officials say the approach is intended to force Tehran toward negotiations.

Iran has responded by saying it can withstand economic pressure and continue trade through alternative routes. Tehran insists its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes. It has also demanded recognition of its right to enrich uranium under international agreements.

The conflict has disrupted global energy markets and trade routes, contributing to rising oil prices. Analysts warn that prolonged tensions could further destabilize the global economy. Diplomatic efforts remain stalled as both sides maintain firm positions.
