SSP’s son released after detention in Karachi incident

Published on: May 2, 2026 2:45 PM

A late-night incident in Karachi involving the son of a senior police officer has drawn public attention after a video of the altercation circulated widely on social media. Police briefly detained the individual following allegations of misconduct during a routine checkpoint inspection in the city’s Defence area.

According to police sources, the incident took place during snap checking in Defence Phase VII, where officers stopped a vehicle reportedly displaying a government number plate, flashing lights, and a hooter. Authorities said the driver, identified as Khubaib, allegedly became aggressive after being stopped and misbehaved with officers on duty.

Officials claim the individual verbally abused police personnel and allegedly grabbed the uniform of a sub-inspector during the confrontation. During the incident, he reportedly identified himself as the son of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Naseem Ara Panhwar.

Police subsequently took him into custody and registered a First Information Report (FIR) on charges related to obstructing officials in the performance of their duties. However, after legal formalities were completed, he was later released on bail.

Following the circulation of video footage online, police authorities initiated a departmental inquiry to review the conduct of all officers involved in the incident. SP Clifton Khalid Javed has been appointed as inquiry officer and directed to submit findings within three days.

Officials are also reviewing the use of the vehicle involved in the case. According to police sources, the private car was allegedly fitted with an official number plate and police lights assigned to the officer’s mother. Two private security guards were also present in the vehicle at the time.

The vehicle has been taken into custody, while departmental action is being considered regarding the guards and possible misuse of official privileges. A police spokesperson stated that no individual is above the law and clarified that family members of police officers are not authorised to use official equipment or benefits.
