Punjab police arrest suspect in teenage girl assault case

Published on: May 2, 2026 3:30 PM

Police in Punjab’s Hafizabad district have arrested a suspect in connection with the alleged kidnapping and sexual assault case of a 13-year-old girl, officials said on Saturday. The case has drawn attention after authorities confirmed that legal proceedings are underway and efforts continue to trace additional suspects.

According to police, the suspect was named in a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victim’s mother at Jalalpur Bhattian police station on April 30. The complaint also includes two unidentified individuals allegedly linked to the incident.

A police spokesperson said the main suspect was arrested during a raid conducted in Tahli Goraya village. Authorities confirmed that the accused is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation as investigators work to identify and arrest the remaining suspects.

Officials also stated that the victim underwent a medical examination, which reportedly provided evidence relevant to the investigation. The case has been registered under sections relating to rape and kidnapping under the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the complaint, the victim’s mother found her daughter in distress outside her school when she arrived to deliver breakfast. The girl allegedly told her mother that two men on a motorcycle had forcibly taken her to another location earlier in the day.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and all legal procedures are being followed. Authorities have assured the family that the case will be pursued thoroughly and that those responsible will be brought before the law.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns surrounding child protection and gender-based violence in Pakistan. Rights advocates have repeatedly called for stronger law enforcement mechanisms, faster investigations, and improved victim support services in such cases.

Data from civil society organisations has previously pointed to low conviction rates in sexual violence cases, prompting renewed debate over judicial efficiency and legal reforms.

Police have urged the public to cooperate with investigators and report any relevant information that could assist in locating the remaining suspects.
