The athlete stepped onto the red carpet in a custom creation by designer Iris van Herpen, instantly drawing attention with a look that blended fashion, technology, and performance art. The dress reportedly took 2,550 hours to complete and incorporated technological elements designed to merge artistic movement with visual illusion.

Speaking during the event, Gu revealed details behind the elaborate outfit, explaining that the design was intended as a play on surrealism, movement, nature, and whimsy. The 22-year-old described the piece as a fusion of reality and art, highlighting the creative technology built beneath the garment.

The short dress featured a sculptural silhouette covered in thousands of glass spheres, giving the impression of floating bubbles surrounding her body. She paired the outfit with transparent heels, minimal accessories, soft makeup, and a relaxed updo to maintain focus on the statement piece.

Adding to the theatrical effect, floating bubbles reportedly surrounded Gu as she walked the carpet, enhancing the immersive visual concept.

Gu also reflected on the connection between sports and fashion, saying both spaces are rooted in self-expression and pushing boundaries. She described personal style as another way to represent authenticity and creativity beyond athletic competition.

Known for balancing a successful sports career with major fashion endorsements, Gu has become a prominent figure in both industries. She is widely recognised as one of freestyle skiing’s most accomplished athletes and has collaborated with several major luxury brands.

Her Met Gala appearance quickly became one of the evening’s most talked-about fashion moments, with social media users praising the originality and futuristic design.
