Jeff Bezos Accused of Buying Influence at Met Gala 2026

Published on: May 8, 2026 6:07 AM

Jeff Bezos

Met Gala 2026 has come under controversy after reports claimed that Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sánchez became honorary co-chairpersons through a massive financial contribution. As a result, the event is facing strong criticism from within the fashion and entertainment industry.

Reports suggest that Jeff Bezos allegedly spent between 10 to 20 million dollars to secure a prominent role in the Met Gala 2026. Moreover, critics claim this move raises concerns about wealth influencing cultural and artistic platforms. Therefore, debates about fairness and access in elite events have intensified.

According to sources, this action is being viewed as “buying cultural influence” rather than supporting traditional patronage. In addition, questions are being raised about the growing control of wealthy individuals over prestigious global events. Consequently, the controversy has spread widely across media discussions.

A former Vogue event organizer also reacted to the issue. She said that earlier participation in the Met Gala was based on merit and creative influence. However, she added that the nature of the event has changed and now appears more transactional than artistic.

International media reports further stated that discomfort is growing in the fashion and entertainment industry. In addition, several well-known personalities have decided to skip this year’s event. Therefore, the controversy is also affecting attendance and public perception of the gala.

The situation continues to spark debate over the influence of money in global cultural events. Ultimately, Met Gala 2026 faces backlash over Jeff Bezos chairperson allegations, highlighting concerns about fairness, influence, and the changing nature of high-profile fashion platforms.
