Bangladesh post 301 against Pakistan

Published on: May 8, 2026 6:20 PM

Bangladesh posted a strong total of 301 for 4 against Pakistan at the end of the first day of the opening Test in Dhaka. The hosts produced a solid batting display, led by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who scored a commanding century. Pakistan’s bowlers struggled to make early breakthroughs despite consistent efforts.

Shanto scored 101 runs off 130 balls, anchoring the Bangladesh innings with a controlled and composed knock. Mominul Haque added valuable support with 91 runs, helping build a strong partnership for the hosts. Veteran Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 48 at stumps, keeping Bangladesh in a commanding position.

Pakistan’s bowling attack managed to take four wickets, but lacked consistent pressure throughout the day. Mohammad Abbas, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, and Nauman Ali each picked up one wicket. However, Bangladesh’s top-order batting limited Pakistan’s ability to control the session.

The match marks the beginning of the Test series between the two sides, with the second Test scheduled to begin in Sylhet on May 16. Pakistan are already without key batter Babar Azam, who has been ruled out due to a knee injury. His absence has added further pressure on the visiting side’s batting lineup.

Bangladesh will look to extend their advantage on the second day, while Pakistan aim to restrict the hosts and fight back into the match. The strong first-day performance has given Bangladesh early momentum in the series.
